I’ve always enjoyed making my own beef jerky. For years, I gave it away as holiday gifts or shared it with friends and family whenever I had a batch ready. Somewhere along the way, people started telling me I should sell it. I appreciated the encouragement, but at the time, I was busy running our RV dealership and jerky stayed a hobby.
That changed in the fall of 2008. The economic downturn forced us to close our doors and make some big decisions. With the support of my wife and the encouragement of family and friends, we decided to take a chance on something new and see what would happen if we shared our jerky with Albuquerque.
The response surprised us. People did not just enjoy it, they came back asking for the same flavors again and again. Some even joked that they were addicted, which is something we still hear regularly in the shop today.
More than 15 years later, we are still doing what we love. What started as a big leap of faith has grown into a multigenerational family business, with our children and grandchildren now part of the day-to-day. We continue to make thin, deliciously New Mexican jerky the way we always have, and we are proud to serve customers both locally and far beyond the Southwest.
Over the years, we have been honored to win multiple Best of the City awards, a recognition we never take for granted. The continued support from our community and our customers means everything to us and keeps us excited about what is still ahead.
